With 61 percent of Americans in support of legalizing marijuana, more states are allowing the use of cannabis for medical and recreational purposes. A growing number of studies have proven its therapeutic benefits for alleviating a number of serious ailments.

While you may be hesitant to use marijuana for recreational purposes, if you suffer from any of the conditions in this list, it may be wise to implement cannabis into your health and wellness regimen.

Insomnia

Cannabis reduces drowsiness and improves the overall quality of sleep. CBD and THC-based medicines can be used to deal with a wide variety of sleep orders, including insomnia.

Spinal Cord Disease

Any type of chronic spinal issues, which have arisen for reasons outside of injury, can be classified as spinal disease. Spinal stenosis, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, and syringomyelia all fit into this category. Cannabis is a ready-made medicine for these ailments because of its ability to ease two of the main symptoms of spinal cord disease — pain and spasticity.

Epilepsy

Speaking of spasticity, epilepsy, which is characterized by mild to severe seizures, affects millions worldwide. CBD, in particular, has proven to be highly effective at reducing the severity and the frequency of seizures. Medical professionals caution, however, that cannabis should only be used when traditional treatments fail to prevent the seizures from happening.

Arthritis

Arthritis refers to any joint inflammation. Numbering in the hundreds, some forms of arthritis are more severe than others. The symptoms include stiffness, weakness, limited range of motion, and chronic joint pain. It turns out, cannabis is as good as they come at dealing with the joint pain. Studies have even found that cannabis is so effective that the disease activity slows down as well.

Irritable Bowel Disease

Research has shown that IBD patients (including Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis) received enormous benefits from cannabis, including better ability to work and function socially, reduced depression and physical pain, and improved overall health.

Cancer

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death. Cannabis is not a cure for cancer, however, it can suppress it for some time and greatly reduce the agonizing symptoms. For instance, many cancer patients happen to struggle with anorexia and weight loss — both things cannabis helps with because it stimulates appetite. Additionally, marijuana is a perfect counter to chemo-induced nausea.

Spinal and Other Major Injuries

Spinal cord injuries can cause a total loss of function in certain areas of the body. Cannabis is a proven method of treating the muscle spasms and pain that come with these types of injuries.

Of course, cannabis is a remedy for the pain of many traumas and injuries if used properly and in the correct dosages.
